PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A former Providence teacher took to the web to hand in his resignation.

Stephen Round tells Eyewitness News he made the video after his request to read the resignation letter at a school committee meeting was denied.

In the letter, Round says he can no longer work for a school district that is so structured, it allows no room for alternative methods of teaching and learning.

"It was purely frustration. It got the point where I can't stand by and watch kids not learn, and I have the key to help them." he said. "They want us to follow the book to the letter."

Round says he decided to leave in the middle of the year because his frustration with school leaders was not helping his students.

He currently volunteers at a school in Connecticut, where he tutors children.
