PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A man suspected of fleeing the scene of a rollover in Providence early Sunday morning, killing the passenger, turned himself in to Rhode Island State Police on Monday evening, police said.

Kevin A. Killoran, 50, of Cranston is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting; driving to endanger; and operating on a suspended license.

State police said Killoran's license had been suspended because he refused to take a chemical breath test in an earlier incident.

Killoran was allegedly driving his black Mercedes around 2 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle struck yellow sand barrels and a Jersey barrier, rolling over and finally landing on its tires on the ramp from westbound Route 195 to southbound Route 95 in Providence.

By the time rescuers arrived on the scene, the driver had fled. Paramedics transported the passenger, David Clinton, 43 of Bristol to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, Clinton and Killoran, who had been friends for 20 years, had recently left Lucky's American Bar and Grille on Warren Avenue in East Providence before the crash.

Killoran owns the Z Bar and Grille on Wickenden Street in Providence, where Clinton was the chef.

Lt. Eric LaRiviera of Rhode Island State Police said officers took photos of Killoran's body when he turned himself in on Monday evening, finding swelling and bruising. He said officers found what they believe is makeup attempting to conceal his injuries.
