PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Days after receiving a notice about the abrupt closer of the Sawyer School, students are still looking for answers.
Eyewitness News sat down with two former students, whose frustrations go beyond missing out on an education.
Monica Przuskowski was attending the Sawyer School to build a future for her family. However, the single mother of two says that the closure is affecting her in the present.
According to her, since she is no longer a student, the value of her food stamps will progressively get smaller each month. Meanwhile, her debt has grown. "We wasted our time and our money," she said.
Jamie Quattrocchi, a classmate and friend, says that she signed her loans on the last day possible. Unaware the school was going to close, she now owns a $22,000 debt as well.
Now, a Rhode Island delegation is petitioning to reimburse students with federal funding.
