No deal for man charged with stabbing

Christopher Amaral turns down plea agreement

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Bristol man accused of repeatedly stabbing his former co-worker has decided to put his fate in the hands of a jury.

Christopher Amaral rejected a plea deal with prosecutors Monday morning in connection with the stabbing of Andrea Wilmot. Instead, Amaral has opted to go to trial to face the charges against him.

He is accused of stabbing Wilmot, 21, 20 times in July of 2011 outside her Garden St. home in Cranston, as she returned from a night out.

The 33-year-old Bristol man has been held on $100,000 bail at the ACI since his arrest and arraignment last year.

Amaral is charged with assault with intent to murder.

Wilmot told police Amaral initially just wanted to speak with her, but after she refused she said he violently attacked her and stabbed her repeatedly with an unknown object.

She told police Amaral had been calling her all night and that she had suspected him of vandalizing her car while she was at Twin River with her sister hours before the attack.

Wilmot's family said Amaral was obsessed with the victim.

"This guy was just a weirdo, a stalker. He had this fascination with her and he wanted her to go out with him, and she didn't want to go out with him and wanted nothing to do with him," David Wilmot said last year.
