PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Monday night's fire at Trinity Repertory Company was extinguished quickly, but the theater says smoke and water caused more damage than the flames.

Firefighters were called to the building just after 8 p.m. after receiving reports that a mattress was burning on a stage.

No performances were going on at the time of the fire and no one was hurt.

The theater is assessing whether it will go ahead with a show scheduled to open in the damaged space on Thursday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
