EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – An ailing dog that was allegedly abandoned on an East Providence road on Wednesday, has been put to sleep.
The 7-year-old Rottweiler, with a cancerous growth on its leg, was brought to the SPCA in East Providence after the person who dropped him off claimed he found the dog sitting under the Wampanoag Trail overpass.
On Thursday, the same man returned to the shelter and confessed that the dog was his, but said he could not afford to keep it.
The president of the Rhode Island SPCA says he is filing a report with police and seeking animal cruelty charges.
