EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The family of one of the victims in last month's tragic triple homicide held a fundraiser on Sunday.
The event took place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Comedy Connection in East Providence, and was held to raise money for the two daughters of 22-year-old Shemeeka Barros .
Family and friends who attended the event said it was good to laugh again, but the pain of losing Shemeeka is still there.
Tickets for the event were 20 dollars, and all proceeds went directly to Barros' 3 and 5-year-old girls, who are now being raised by their grandmother.
Barros, along with 23-year-old Michael Martin and 22-year-old Damien Colon, were shot to death in an apartment on General Street July 30 in what police are now saying was a robbery.
Two teenage boys, a 16 and 17-year-old, were arrested last week and charged with the murders.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says he intends to prosecute the two as adults.
