Sen. Reed seeking Sandy relief for RI

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - U.S. Senator Jack Reed is calling on Congress to pass a comprehensive Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.

So far, Rhode Island has received about $10 million in federal aid to cope with storm damage.

House lawmakers in Washington are yet to vote on a $50.7 billion aid package that would help Rhode Island and communities along the east coast recover from the storm.

"If this is delayed significantly long, then you'll see people just sitting around  They've done the planning, they know what they have to do, but they don't have the resources to get the job done," said Senator Reed.

Sandy is the most costly natural disaster since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

In Rhode Island alone, FEMA has registered nearly 600 households for some form of disaster assistance.
