SCITUATE, RI (WPRI) - Rhode Island State Police said they feel Wednesday nights' Amber Alert system worked just fine.
The Amber Alert went out to all of the police departments in Rhode Island. It did not go out to the electronic signs seen on state highways.
“It didn’t this time because there wasn’t a car involved. If there was a car involved we would have put it on the signs on the highway,” explained State Police Captain Frank B. Castellone.
The Amber Alert also may have not gone out to every news organization either.
“The only suggestion I would have is, if any media outlet did not get the message, then they need to update their information with us so that we can enter that into the web portal and this way they’ll be able to receive the information next time, if it does ever occur again.”
State Police issued an Amber Alert Wednesday evening for 13-year-old Joyce Liberty.
Liberty was last seen on Tuesday at 2 p.m. on Tell Street in Providence and was thought to be in danger.
Officials say threatening messages were sent from Liberty's cell phone to members of her family.
“Tips from private citizens came in to E-911, as a result of those tips; she was located at the Providence Place mall."
Rhode Island State Police say their track record speaks for itself. This first Amber Alert issued in Rhode Island was back in June of 2005.
The Amber Alert has worked in each case with all kids having been recovered safe and sound.
