CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - - Rhode Island will receive $250,000 in federal funds to help people who care for an aging or disabled relative get some time off.
U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin announced the new federal grant Thursday in Cranston.
The money is intended to pay for respite care, a program that provides short-term care to people with special needs when their regular family caregiver needs time off.
In Rhode Island, respite care is provided by several community organizations in partnership with the state.
Langevin, a Democrat, said respite care makes it easier for relatives to care for aging or disabled family members.
