RI facing coldest temperatures in 2 years

Cold snap will continue the rest of the week

PROVIDENCE, R .I. (WPRI) – Rhode Islanders are bundled up facing the coldest temperatures Southern New England has seen in the past two years.

People are out and about but not as if it is another day at the beach, more like a day in a walk-in freezer.

A Version crew working on the streets in Providence required a police detail, and the policemen were feeling the brunt of the cold.

“It’s like being in a wind tunnel, with somebody blowing a fan in your face,” said Patrolman Wayne Mann.

Providence’s clean team kept working right through the cold, as well as cab drivers who were making some extra cash during the cold snap.

“It’s good for business because people are taking taxis,” said Providence cab driver, Steve Okeowo.

The skating rink, which is up and running, was empty on Wednesday afternoon because of the bitter cold.

This cold weather will stick around for the rest of the week, with a warming trend expected on Monday.
