PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island ended its most recent fiscal year $115 million in the black.
The Providence Journal reports Tuesday that the new number comes from the state controller's closing statement for the fiscal year that ended July 30.
The surplus is higher than expected.
According to the controller state revenue for the year was nearly $13 million greater than expected, while general revenue expenses were $29 million less than originally budgeted.
Before the fiscal year ended state budget officials had estimated that the surplus would be $102 million.
