EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI)I - The Rhode Island State Council of Churches is working with the Department of Health to encourage all parishioners to get the H1N1 vaccine.
The group tells Eyewitness News it is sending mass e-mails to members, and trying to promote the importance of the H1N1 vaccine.
"We do know that whenever there is something like this that goes out, it takes longer and it's a more difficult route to get into that immigrant community," the Rev. Dr. Donald Anderson tells us.
According to the Department of Health, less than 70% of students at about 20% of schools are getting the H1N1 vaccine.
"We're trying to get the word out to more of those, to let them know that this is really important," Rev. Dr. Anderson says.
According to it's web site, the Council is made up of 12 Protestant denominations, six affiliated church organizations and eight Orthodox denominations and congregations with 100,000 members in Rhode Island.
