PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island Land Trust kicked off a six week-long event on Friday celebrating green spaces in Rhode Island.
Friday’s event showed off the view from the Neutaconkanut Hill, as well as a campfire, and adventure walk.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras is in full support of the six week long celebration stating “Urban green spaces are as essential to the quality of life in a city as open space is to suburban and rural areas. ”
There is a full calendar of activities and special events throughout the six week schedule, including an ice cream social, silent auction, kayaking, and various guided walks throughout the Ocean State’s Land Trust locations.
Land Trusts are supported for the most part by volunteers and donations from local communities.
Rupert Friday, Director for Rhode Island Land Trust Council says that the Land Trust days are to let Rhode Islanders know that there are special places for you to see “just outside your door. ”
