Early snow causes frustration across RI

Snow a burden for most, a business boost for some

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – It was a slow commute on Wednesday night along 195 in East Providence, but not as slow as the somewhat grid locked commute that occurred Wednesday morning.

Snow kept traffic down to a slow crawl in many areas in Southern New England this morning, with frequent accidents occurring in the area.

The snow produced the usual frustrations as well.

“It’s a little slick and a little unorganized. They should have at least cancelled school or delayed a little bit so the plows can get by, they are all stuck in traffic,” said Cumberland parent Ronald Andreozzi.

“Just go very cautious and pay attention, that’s really all you can do in the snow,” said driver Cory Krause.

Some people, such as car wash manager Tom Schmitz rely on snowstorms for a boost in business.

“Salt and sand get down on the ground, and before you know it the cars are dirty and they have to come in and clean it,” said Schmitz.

The snow from this particular storm has been wet and heavy, and hard to shovel for many.

“I wouldn’t encourage you to do this if you are not physically fit,” said homeowner Jane Turner while shoveling.

The state DOT is ready with salt and sand if rain begins to freeze as the night goes on.
