EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A recycling company that has battled with East Providence neighbors over complaints about noise, dust and other problems has closed after 14 years in business.
The Providence Journal reports that a court-appointed receiver says TLA Pond View was unable to meet a court-ordered September 24 deadline to remove construction and demolition debris.
Judge Michael Silverstein agreed on Tuesday to the receiver’s request to shut down the company.
Neighbors recently distributed photographs of materials accumulating on the property and repearedly complained to the DEM and other officials.
Terrence Gray, associate director for environmental protection, says the agency inspected the property weekly and persuaded Silverstein to set deadlines for removing the material.
Fifteen employees were remaining when the company closed.
