PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- An annual fundraiser for Rhode Island's largest zoo has raised $276,000 to support education and conservation programs.
Roger Williams Park Zoo says the money brought in at its "Zoobilee" fundraiser in June will fund next year's environmental education programs and conservation initiatives, which focus on endangered species locally and worldwide.
This year, the fundraising event included an online auction of 200 items that raised some $43,000.
Zoo Director Jack Mulvena says the event, in its 20th year, is critical to the zoo's education and conservation programs. This year's festivities attracted nearly 1,400 guests.
Last year's event raised nearly $300,000.
