PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island's veterans will be honored at the Statehouse with a ceremony that's part of the national Wreaths Across America effort.
Lawmakers will join local veterans and their families at Monday's event, which will feature a wreath ceremony at the Garden of Heroes, an area of the Statehouse lawn set aside to honor service members.
Wreaths Across America is an effort to recognize the service and sacrifice of veterans during the holidays.
The event began 20 years ago with a donation of 5,000 wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. This year, an estimated 400,000 wreaths will be used in ceremonies throughout the country and overseas.
