Two names added to Garden of Heroes at State House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Two more names have been added to a monument dedidicated to Rhode Island's fallen military personnel.

The names of Sergeant Dennis P Weichel Jr. and Lance Corporal Abraham Tarwoe were added to the memorial monument in the Garden of Heroes behind the State House.

Both Providence natives were killed in Afghanistan this year; Sergeant Weichel died on March 22nd as a member of the Rhode Island National Guard's 143rd Infantry Regiment, while Lance Corporal Tarwoe died April 12th while serving with the Marine Corps' 9th Marine Regiment.

Families, friends, and comrades of both men attended a ceremony Saturday morning for the dedication of the monument.  State officials including Major General Kevin McBride of the Rhode Island National Guard and Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts also attended.

25 Rhode Islanders have been killed in action during the Global War on Terror.
