PROVIDENCE, RI (AP) - A Rhode Island teen accused of strangling an acquaintance has waived extradition from Connecticut and will return to face charges in Providence.
The attorney general’s office said 18-year-old Travis Garcia of Coventry will be arraigned Monday on charges including murder in the death of 32-year-old Jeannine Garcia, no relation.
Authorities arrested Travis Garcia last Sunday in Clinton, Conn., after he crashed a car belonging to the alleged victim while trying to elude police, who were chasing him for speeding.
After the arrest, Providence police checked on Jeannine Garcia and found her body inside her Providence apartment.
Travis Garcia was arraigned on fugitive from justice charges
Friday in New Haven, Conn. But those charges were dropped after he
agreed to waive extradition and return to Rhode Island.
