Trader Joe's recalls peanut butter

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Trader Joe's has recalled a peanut butter brand that is believed to be linked a multi-state salmonella outbreak.

Sunday, the store voluntarily recalled its Trader Joe's brand Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter Made with Sea Salt.  The Rhode Island Department of Health had issued a warning Friday that the peanut butter could be linked to a multi-state Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened 28 people, including one in Rhode Island.

The brand in question is sold in 16 oz. containers with "use-by" dates of 5/23/2013 6/28/2013.  The product has not been positively linked to the outbreak and the recall was voluntary, although the Health Department is now recommending that consumers should not eat any Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter Made with Sea Salt from the store regardless of the dates.

Anyone who has this particular peanut butter should either throw it away or return it to Trader Joe's.  If you have recently eaten it and experienced diarrhea or vomiting, call your healthcare provider.
