Total is in from 38 Studios Auction

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- An auction held Tuesday at the former 38 Studios offices netted $650,000, according to state officials.

A spokesperson for the RI Economic Development Corporation provided the total Friday.

High-end computer equipment, furniture, models, games and toys, books, and even items from Curt Schilling's office were among the things up for sale Tuesday.  About 95% of what was listed sold at Tuesday night's auction, which ran until about 10 p.m.

Earlier this week, Governor Lincoln Chafee said he was not optimistic that the auction would make a significant dent in the amount of money the state lost when the video game company went belly-up; 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy in June, leaving the state on the hook for as much as $100 million.

However, receiver Richard Land told Eyewitness News Wednesday that the biggest piece of revenue is expected from the sale of the company's intellectual property, which will be auctioned off in the coming months.
