PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- RIPTA fired three managers after a security breach was uncovered at its Elmwood Avenue facility, the transit authority announced Tuesday.

Sources told Eyewitness News that RIPTA launched an investigation after discovering coats were being placed over security cameras in the facility's cash room, where money boxes from buses are opened and counted. It is unclear if any money was stolen.

According to sources, the three managers who were terminated were believed to be involved in the literal cover-up.

In a news release Tuesday, RIPTA said it may take additional action related to the security breach. It also said it would make "structural and systems changes" to enhance security.
