PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island taxpayers have three extra days to file their taxes, thanks to a holiday in Washington, D.C.

Every year, April 15 means Tax Day for Americans. This year, however, the government has extended the tax filing deadline to Monday, April 18.

Emancipation Day, a holiday marked in Washington, D.C. falls on April 15 this year. Because of the holiday, the IRS is closed.

Procrastinating taxpayers have until Monday to file their taxes.
