PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The man accused in a fatal street racing crash in Providence was arraigned Monday.
Boris Rendon, 21, is accused of racing Matthew Pina on Interstate 95 early Friday morning. Pina was killed when his vehicle went off the road and into the West River.
Rendon is charged with failure to stop after an accident - death resulting, street racing, driving to endanger - resulting in death, and reckless driving.
Rendon was arraigned before a Justice of the Peace on Monday. He did not enter a plea.
Rendon remained silent throughout the hearing.
Eyewitnesses told state troopers the Pawtucket residents were driving at speeds higher than 100 miles per hour before the crash.
Rendon is being held on $20,000 surety. He is due back in court Oct. 27.
