PROVIDENCE, RI (AP) - Rhode Island is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with parades and other events.
On Saturday, Newport will hold its 54th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. It starts at 11 a.m. at City Hall and ends at St. Augustine’s Church. Parade organizers say it will feature eight pipe bands, nine marching bands, three fife and drum corps and other entertainment.
On Sunday at 1 p.m. West Warwick will hold its 51st annual parade, which starts at the corner of Washington Street and West Warwick Avenue.
On Wednesday, which is St. Patrick’s Day, the city of Providence will commemorate the day with Irish music and dance at City Hall at noon, as well as a speech by George Nee, president of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO.
