PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Providence wants police to block the parole of some state prison inmates.
The Providence Journal reports that Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare says senior police commanders will immediately begin checking the monthly list of parole candidates and send the parole board a letter to object to the release of anyone they believe is not a good prospect. http://news.providencejournal.com/breaking-news/2012/09/providence-mayo-42.html
For example, Pare said that if police know an inmate has kept ties to troublemakers and might return to a neighborhood feud, they will object to the release.
Pare says most Rhode Island parolees have links to Providence because they lived in the city, have friends or relatives there or would be assigned to social-service programs there.
