PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority announced dozens of job cuts Monday, but also indicated it would be hiring new workers in the next few months.
In a news release Monday, RIPTA CEO Charles Odimgbe said the agency would eliminate over 30 positions early next year. All of the layoffs would be non-transportation positions.
Odimgbe said they also plan to hire at least 20 drivers by April, in order to meet service demands.
According to the news release, RIPTA is currently facing a $4.6 million deficit.
