PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The head of the Rhode Island National Guard is getting a new assistant adjutant general, while a military police brigade is set to get a new commander hailing from Massachusetts.

Kevin McBride, head of the Rhode Island National Guard, says Col. David Medeiros will be promoted to brigadier general during a ceremony at the Statehouse on Sunday. Col. Thomas Clark will then take over command of the 43rd Military Police Brigade, which Medeiros has led.

Medeiros, of North Kingstown, has been with the Rhode Island State Police for 20 years. He will become McBride's Army assistant adjutant general.

Clark, of Canton., Mass., has deployed twice with the 43rd Military Police Brigade, including to Guantanamo Bay in 2002 and Iraq in 2005.
