PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island is planning its first ever free public dental health clinic.

The two-day Mission of Mercy event will be held June 2nd and 3rd at CCRI's Flanagan Campus in Lincoln.

The clinic is intended to provide oral health care to Rhode Islanders who cannot afford dental coverage.

Rhode Island dentists and other dental professionals will be donating their time.

Organizers expect to treat up to six hundred patients.

The following services will be provided:

  • Cleanings
  • Fluoride treatments
  • X-rays
  • Dental sealants
  • Fillings
  • Tooth extractions
  • Some root canal treatments
  • Minor denture repairs
  • Oral health education

Patients will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to the Rhode Island Department of Health, 130,000 Rhode Islanders enrolled in Medicaid did not see a dentist in 2010, and the number of residents who no longer have dental insurance or cannot afford dental care is on the rise.
