PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that a Rhode Island state probation officer has been charged with receiving child pornography.
According to investigators, they found dozens of child pornography videos inside the Coventry home of Gerald Silva. They believe he purchased 75 different videos in 22 separate orders for $1,859 through a Toronto-based company.
Silva is currently assigned to the sex offender unit of the probation office.
The minimum sentence for receiving child porn is 5 years in prison, with a maximum of 20 years, as well as a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
Silva has been ordered confined to his home following a court appearance Thursday.
