PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island is set to receive millions of dollars in federal disaster relief funds.
Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse said Tuesday the $6.45 million will go towards repairing infrastructure damaged by the 2010 historic floods and Tropical Storm Irene last year.
Reed and Whitehouse said most of the money, $6 million, will be used for flood repairs. $3 million has been earmarked to fix several sections of the Blackstone River wall in Pawtucket. Another $3 million will be used to stabilize two mill buildings along the Pawtuxet River in Coventry, near the Laurel Avenue Bridge.
According to the senators, $453,300 will be used to remove debris and restore farmland damaged by Tropical Storm Irene.
