Flags at half-staff on Pearl Harbor Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Flags in Rhode Island will be flown at half-staff in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee has ordered that all public buildings in the state display the U.S. and Rhode Island flags at half-staff on Friday. The day marks the 71st anniversary of the 1941 attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

President Barack Obama on Thursday issued a proclamation declaring Dec. 7 a day of remembrance in honor of the 2,400 Americans who died at Pearl Harbor. He urged federal agencies, organizations and others to fly their flags at half-staff.
