Police honored for road safety efforts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island Department of Transportation honored various law enforcement officers and agencies Tuesday for their efforts in improving highway safety.

The 2012 Highway Safety Champion Awards were presented to the Pawtucket Police Department, Rhode Island State Police, and seven individual officers:

  • Cpl. William Litterio, Richmond Police Dept.
  • Sgt. John Andrews, East Providence Police Dept.
  • Officer Jedidiah Pineau, Warwick Police Dept.
  • Officer Jason Farias, Warwick Police Dept.
  • Trooper Genaro Ramriez, RI State Police
  • Trooper Sean McCarthy, RI State Police
  • Trooper John Gadrow, RI State Police

Eyewitness News assignment editor Steve Laxton was also recognized with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award of Excellence and Appreciation.

The awards were presented during the MADD "TeamSpirit" Conference at Bryant University.
