PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The trial of a Providence detective charged in a police brutality case continued in court Thursday.
Robert DeCarlo is accused of beating Luis Mendonca into a coma in October of 2009.
On Wednesday, prosecutors played the surveillance video they claim shows DeCarlo kicking and beating a handcuffed Mendonca with a flashlight.
"In my mind, it is showing somebody be treated like a dog. It's incredible what they did to my brother. Thank God the camera was there and the camera can tell everything" said Rose Mendonca told reporters outside of court.
DeCarlo's former partner took the stand on Thursday. He said he was shocked at what he say.
"Detective DeCarlo struck the subject, and the last time he was struck the subject kind of buckled at the knee, dropped down a little bit," said Robert Melaragno.
DeCarlo's defense lawyer argues his client never knew that Mendonca was in handcuffs.
