PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) - Providence regulators have revoked the business license of a city nightclub police say is linked to a November homicide and other violent incidents, including stabbings, assaults and fights.

The city Board of Licenses said Wednesday that Platinum has "exhibited a lack of attention to even the most basic requirements in the operation of a nightclub."

Board member Paul Ragosta tells The Providence Journal the club is "a serious threat to public safety."

The decision means the club must close immediately, but leaves open the option of selling the business within 30 days of transferring its licenses.

A man who helped arrange the musical entertainment at Platinum last November is charged with the murder of a patron. Months later, a man was stabbed outside the club in April.

Instead of closing the establishment, the club's lawyer supports the license transfer option.
