Group protesting Brown, Verizon, 38 Studios

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Occupy Providence is back in the city this Labor Day weekend, protesting 38 Studios, Verizon, and Brown University.

Organizers say the group will be holding a "round-the-clock occupation" on Empire Street next to the Verizon building and the former home of failed video game company 38 Studios.

Occupy says the Verizon protest is in response to the company's outsourcing of jobs, overcharging of customers, and freezing of employee pensions.  Meanwhile the group says it believes that the state of Rhode Island should not be using taxpayer money for "another Wall Street bailout" for 38 Studios.

The group plans to set up at 2 p.m. Saturday and stay on Empire Street through Sunday, when members will march to Brown University and demand that the school pay more in taxes to the city.

The protests conclude on Monday with a Labor Day rally planned at noon.
