Foreclosures rise in Prov. metro area

One in every 129 homes received foreclosure notice

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The number of foreclosures in the Providence metro area is up 10.3 percent during the first six months of 2010, compared with the same time period last year.

The latest data was released by the real estate tracking firm, RealtyTrac Inc . on Thursday.

The metro area includes Providence, New Bedford , Fall River and the surrounding region. The region ranked 119th highest among the 206 metro areas surveyed.

According to the RealtyTrac, over 5,000 homes in the region received a foreclosure notice. That means one in every 129 homes is in foreclosure.

Four states — Florida, California, Nevada and Arizona — had all top 20 metro foreclosure rates.

The company said that nationwide, foreclosures made upr 31 percent of all real estate transactions in the first quarter of 2010.
