PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A Connecticut woman convicted but later cleared of killing her 19-month-old daughter in Rhode Island in 2002 says she's upset at the likelihood that no one will be tried for the toddler's death.
Kimberly Mawson of Torrington, Conn., told The Providence Journal that she's frustrated there's no justice for her daughter, Jade. The girl died of a traumatic brain injury after collapsing at Mawson's ex-boyfriend's apartment in Warwick.
Mawson spent nearly three years in prison before Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office dropped a second-degree murder charge against her earlier this month. Kilmartin's office also said it will not be charging Mawson's ex-boyfriend, Daniel Fusco, who was with Jade when she collapsed.
The attorney general's office said a successful prosecution of Fusco was unlikely. The case remains open.
