PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Providence man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend two years ago.
Victor Onishi pleaded no contest April 13 on a charge of murder in the second degree for the killing of Lisbeth Catalan.
Judge Susan McGuirl issued the sentence Thursday morning.
Prosecutors said he strangled Catalan inside her Chalkstone Avenue apartment in July, 2010, a few months after investigators said they'd dated briefly -- and broken up.
Onishi did not take the breakup well, Catalan's cousin told Eyewitness News in 2010, and had become obsessed with Catalan.
