PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A Rhode Island man who acted as the muscle in a New England mafia shakedown of a used car salesman has been sentenced to seven years behind bars.
Albino Folcarelli, 54, of Johnston, was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Providence. He pleaded guilty in May to one count of extortion conspiracy for visiting the work and home of a used car salesman to intimidate him into paying $25,000.
He must also pay back $25,000 with two other men convicted in the plot.
Folcarelli was the seventh person to plead guilty in a federal investigation into extortion by the New England mob. The man prosecutors say the acting head of the mob, Anthony L. Dinunzio, has pleaded not guilty to several charges in that investigation.
