PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Crumbling roads in Providence could soon receive much-needed repairs.
Officials have released a plan that would fix about 15% of the city's streets, if voters approve a $40 million bond in November.
Engineers surveyed every street in Providence, and have released a map showing 65 miles worth of roads needing immediate repairs.
The work would be done in several phases beginning next year, and continuing through the end of 2015.
Melrose Street, where Michelle Davidson lives, would be one of the first streets to be repaired.
"I am highly excited about it, because the better our neighborhoods look, the more confidence and pride we take in our streets," Davidson said.
The road repairs would create an estimated 750 jobs over three years.
City Council President Michael Solomon released a statement reading, "Repairing our roads is a quality of life issue that affects everyone who travels in our city. I am hopeful voters will turn out to support this targeted, calculated and transparent approach to infrastructure investment."
