Locals come together to feed the needy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- People celebrate Thanksgiving in many different ways. For some, it's about spending time with family and friends. For others, it's about giving to those who might have a little less to be thankful for right now.

Workers at the Crossroads Shelter in Providence spent their Wednesday making preparations for their Thanksgiving dinner. It's not for their families though, it's for hundreds of less fortunate Rhode Islanders, and putting together a meal for that many hungry souls is no small task.

"Coordination is one thing, I had to have everything prepared ahead of time so people could just step in and work," said Crossroads chef David Rocheleau.

"It really is a community effort, not just St. Michael's, we never do anything on our own," said Sister Ann Keefe of St. Michael's Church.

The meals are being prepared to be brought to the church for Thanksgiving.

"Everyone is welcome, we have dozens of volunteers and great donors to make tomorrow a great day," added Sister Keefe.

In the end, about a half dozen organizations work as one to bring the meals to those in need. Dozens of volunteers are working hard to make Thanksgiving day not just for their family, but for their community.

Thursday's dinner will be begin at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Providence.
