PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Providence firefighters had to contend with snow and ice while trying to battle an overnight house fire early Sunday morning.
Crews were called to Kenwood St. around 2:30 a.m., where they found heavy fire on the second and third floors of the home.
Fire officials say the fire started on the second floor porch and spread to the third floor porch and roof, but they have not yet been able to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Interior damage to the house was minimal but it is not habitable because of the exterior damage. The Red Cross is assisting nine adults and six children were displaced. Nobody was hurt in the incident.
Fire officials say there were no smoke detectors in the home; the Providence Fire Department makes smoke detectors available for free to low-income families or disabled persons via the Fire Prevention Office .
The Red Cross is assisting 9 adults and 6 children displaced by the fire.
