Ice still unsafe despite deep freeze
DEM advises skaters to avoid ponds and lakes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Despite the blast of bone-chilling weather that continues to grip southern New England, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management warns that ponds and lakes across the state are still unsafe for skating.
The DEM tells Eyewitness News the water at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick is only about four inches thick right now; two inches below the thickness required for safe skating.
At Lincoln Woods State Park, a DEM spokesperson says standing water is still visible. And there is also no safe ice at Meshanicut State Park in Cranston, according to the DEM website.
