PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Nearly 500 people participated in the 27th Annual AIDS Walk for Life at the Rhode Island State House, organized by AIDS Project Rhode Island and Family Service of Rhode Island.
The annual event aims to educate the public about the deadly virus, its prevention and testing. It also serves as a fundraiser for several local programs that provide care for people living with HIV.
The Project has reported, of late, the number of people living with HIV is increasing. Furthermore, there are an increasing number of gay and bisexual men being diagnosed with HIV.
Organizers said the event came close to raising their goal of $65,000.
