PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A hit and run driver is blamed for a late-night accident that left a hole in the wall of a Sherwood Street home.
Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, police said the driver crashed into a car parked outside the home, and the impact sent the second car into the house.
The impact ruptured some pipes inside the home, and left the basement flooded.
“It was pretty loud. Even my sister up on the third floor heard it. Second floor heard it. Everybody heard it,” said Scotty Inthaphone, a resident.
The car was later pulled out of the home. Despite the damage, the building inspector said the home was structurally sound.
"I was in the room on my laptop and I heard a loud crash and I looked out my window and when I was looking out the window, I was pretty sure someone hit my dad's car," said Scotty Inthaphone, a resident.
Inthaphone said he saw the vehicle who hit his parent's house take off.
“I think it was a tan Grand Cherokee Jeep. It was speeding off going towards Branch Ave,” added Inthaphone.
For neighbors like Barbara Young, an incident like this makes her want to move out of the area.
“I don’t like this neighborhood. That’s my thing, I don’t like the neighborhood, and as soon as we can get out of here, we’re getting out,” said Young.
Providence police are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
