PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A new 3-mile walking trail through Providence designed to highlight Rhode Island's history and culture will be unveiled to celebrate Rhode Island Independence Day.

Details about the Rhode Island Independence Trail will be released Wednesday, which is the 235th anniversary of the Rhode Island General Assembly's declaration of independence from the British crown.

The trail includes 75 sites ranging from a place where George Washington slept to a statue of Civil War General Ambrose Burnside, whose distinctive facial hair coined the word "sideburns."

Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) are scheduled to sign a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday between the state and city establishing the Independence Trail.
