PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island car owners can soon help in the fight against breast cancer.

On Wednesday, state officials and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation helped introduce a new state license plate.

The release marks the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness month and will support the RI Department of Health's Women's Cancer Screening Program.

“October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month but for us, breast cancer is a yearlong job. This license plate will help us stay on people’s minds all year long,” said Maria Gemma, Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation Executive Director.

The new plate is available for $41.50. About half the money raised on each plate will go towards the Department of Health's Women's Cancer Screening Program.

Nine hundred orders are required to make the plate official.
