Former nursing home exec. ordered to pay $13.9M
Convicted of embezzling millions from homes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A federal judge has ordered a former nursing home executive convicted of embezzlement to repay the government nearly $14 million.
U.S. District Court Judge Mary Lisi on Monday ordered Antonio Giordano to pay the money back in a lawsuit brought on behalf of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Providence Journal reported on the order Wednesday.
Lisi also ordered Giordano's former colleague, John Montecalvo, to pay more than $7 million and ordered a business set up by Giordano to pay $2.6 million.
Giordano was convicted of conspiracy and embezzlement for taking millions from his nursing homes even as they were defaulting on loans from HUD. The government sued to get the money back. Giordano has filed for bankruptcy.
